My LCD code is not working But i didnt get anything on Display. Please kindly reply me,here is my code. Hi, In your lcd init code. I’m assuming this is the common hitachi type lcd 16×2 display. You always have to initialise in 8 bit mode first before you can set 4 bit mode. The details are in the data sheet but it goes like this 1. Power on-wait 15msec 2. This is just what it says in my datasheet.

I am sure that all these types of displays need to be initialised in 8 bit first though. Thanks for the response. I dont have the data sheet for my LCD.

If you have please send to me.

I used 28h,it is for 5×7. The time you spent typing the request is more than enough to get it after a simple search through Google. He meant a Hitachi type datashfet hitachi compatible, hitachi standard etc.

The controller on the display is the hitachi standard type. I started the 4 bit mode at beginning itself.

The LCD needs initialization before it enters the 4-bit mode. Refer the flowchart in attached file. However you must have that information as you have the values for a clear display, and all the other commands.

In the attachment debrajdeb supplied it shows exactly the sequence you must run to initialise. You will notice that a substantial delay is needed after power on. You haven’t even called your 2. BUT that is still too short anyway. You must allow a 15ms delay at the start of lcd init. So go back and create some extra delay routines.

Make your present delay routine for 5 ms. Creat a 15 msec routine by calling delay5 three times.

And also create a usec delay routine to be used between executing all other commands. If it still deosn’t work after you try this I don’t think I can be of any further help. Please, regardless of how you got it to work in 8 bit mode follow exactly this sequence.

Once you have it working you can try altering and see what it will tolerate before becoming unstable. What are good practices when using SPI?
